Through our survey, we discovered that, true to form, TriTanium athletes still want to compete. We will be allowing participants to enter and participate in their own regions and the unique TriTanium format will remain the same. Obviously there will be some tweaking and wiggle room to compensate for varying distances and elevations. The rules and guidelines will be very clear in the race procedures.
As planned, we will hold the event over the weekend of 21 August. However, we will allow athletes to either participate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, or Saturday, Sunday and Monday, allowing you to manage racing with work and other commitments.
Here’s the line up…
Road Ride of 90km and an elevation gain of 1200m (within 10% either side)
The road ride may be completed on the road, or on an IDT on Zwift.
Road Run of 18km and an elevation gain of 200m (within 10% either side) to be started within 30 minutes of finishing the road ride.
The road run may be completed on the road or on a treadmill on Zwift. If completed on Zwift, athletes will be required to complete an additional 500m in order to compensate for the treadmill’s 0m elevation.
Swim of 1000m - open water or a pool swim.
The swim section has been shortened slightly. It’s the most tricky to monitor, but this is about fun and not cash prize money so training pools, home pool with stroke count, open water… anything goes!
MTB of 55km with an elevation gain of 600m (within 10% either side).
The ride may be done as a MTB or on an IDT on the Zwift platform on a predetermined route which we will prescribe and athletes will have to complete the route on a MTB frame in the Zwift world.
Swim of 750m - open water or pool swim, as for day 2.
Trail Run of 18km and an elevation gain of 230m (within 10% either side).
The trail run may be completed on the road or on a treadmill on Zwift. If completed on Zwift, athletes will be required to complete an additional 1500m in order to compensate for the treadmill’s 0m elevation.
R300 per day OR per discipline
R750 for the full entry (3 days, 6 stages)
R1000 for a full 2-man team entry (all 3 days)
Wait! What? Why an entry fee, you may ask. Well, the fee covers the cost of a limited edition TriTanium Covid Finisher’s T-Shirt and medal, as well as the cost of the guy on a scooter to get this all to you. We are also giving 10% to our charity, Tin Soldiers, which supports the research and treatment of FOP (http://tinsoldiers.org/about-fop/).
What little remains is to help support an original, proudly South African, unique, one-of-a-kind endurance event survive to fight another day and host you again, all together in 2021.
Watch this space for entry details. In the meantime, visit our website at www.tritanium.co.za to check out what we're about and the awesome footage of last year's event.
